Lewis Capaldi would've been a fishmonger if he hadn't been a singer - despite hating fish

Lewis Capaldi says if it hadn’t been for music he would have spent his days handling another type of scales – selling fish.

But it would have been sole destroying because he can’t stand them.

Lewis, 23, whose No1 single Someone You Loved is a record-breaker, said: “My Dad is a fishmonger. He has a fish shop, one that sells fresh fish – KP’s Fresh Fish.

“So I’d probably work there. But I hate fish. I hate the smell of fish and I can’t look at prawns in the face.”

Luckily he has been spared because his debut album, Divinely Uninspired to a Hellish Extent, remained at the top of the UK Albums Chart for six weeks.

The single Someone You Loved, first released in November of 2018, holds the record for the longest number of weeks in the top ten by a British act in history – 31.

That includes 21 weeks in 2019 and ten weeks earlier this year.

It makes up for a childhood being teased about his weight. When asked what his nickname was growing up in Scotland he said: “Capaldi or Fatboy.”

He said he would have been likely to follow in his father's footsteps if he hadn't made it as a singer (file pic) (Getty)

Now he is in a relationship with flame-haired stunner Catherine Halliday, 21, a student, who he has written a song about on his new album. He is said to have mentioned her on a “special” track.

Lewis is working on the album as a follow-up to his award-winning Divinely Uninspired to a Hellish Extent.

He recalls he had his first “sexual awakening” watching Christina Aguilera videos.

When asked who his boyhood celebrity crush was, he said: “The Lady Marmalade video, that was my sexual awakening. That was when I realise, ‘OK, I like this.’”
