Lewis Capaldi was turned down for a local gig for being 'amateur' and 'pants'

Lewis Capaldi has revealed that he was once turned down for a gig by a local venue boss after being branded "pants".

The 24-year-old singer explained on social media that he used to perform with fellow Scot, Yungblud's guitarist Adam Warrington.

But the pair - who both went on the achieve huge success in the music industry - were turned down by one local venue who called the duo out for being 'amateur.'

Years later and the household name got his own back, sharing the response on Instagram, penning: "Myself and @adam_warrington used to play gigs together round our hometown, here's one of the responses we got when we were 17."

The rejection message from the gig boss read: "Sorry guys I'm pretty full up with acts till after Xmas but I'd like to give you some constructive criticism here as I'm guessing your new ish to the scene

"To be honest you need to work on your approach here the first line put me off 'looking for paid gigs'

"And your whole profile shouts amateur

"Your trying to cover to many bases and there really isn't a genre 'singer/songwriter'

"And 'we often have people up dancing to our stuff' no it sounds pants

"And I'd have a hard time getting people interested in 'Adam & Lewis' so I'd sort that out too

"Hope you don't think that's me being harsh I'm trying to help you guys as playing live music is awesome and well done for having some balls"
