When a Glasgow bar created a cocktail in honour of Bathgate’s chart-topping Lewis Capaldi, they didn’t expect that the first person to taste the drink would be Capaldi himself.

He then got in touch with the team, based in Mitchell Street, to ask if he could head along with his mates to try it last night (Saturday).

Jaws dropped at the busy venue when the number one selling artist appeared and he was happy to pose for photos before taking a booth and trying his own exclusive drink.

So L.A. manager Iain Reid came up with the cocktail to launch the forthcoming Glasgow Cocktail Weekend in September and is a mix of Roku gin, sake, Japanese ginger and lychee liqueur. It’ll be on sale at the Mitchell Street venue until Mother’s Day.

Asked how he liked the drink, Capaldi said: “It hits you in the face”.

Louise Rusk, co-owner of So L.A. said: “We know Lewis is a gin connoisseur so we created the cocktail in his honour with gin as a base. We never thought for one minute he’d be the first person to try it but we’re so glad he did.

“It was a bit of fun when we said that anyone called Lewis Capaldi could try the drink for free and we’d asked people to bring down their ID to prove that they shared his name. We didn’t need to ask  this  Lewis Capaldi though! We’re thinking that maybe we’ll start a trend – perhaps we’ll create a cocktail for Johnny Depp and see what happens.”
