Lewis Capaldi took lessons on how to walk and talk 'more elegantly' before fame

Pop superstar Lewis Capaldi was taught how to talk and sit more elegantly by a celebrity etiquette expert before he hit the big time.

Celebrity party organiser Liz Brewer was rumoured to have been paid a five-figure sum by Lewis' record label for the three-hour etiquette crash-course, which took place at her Chelsea home.

The sessions were filmed as part of a 2018 parody video to promote his song Grace, and over the course of the three classes The Someone You Loved singer was taught how shake hands, get in and out of a car and how to use cutlery.

The double Brit award winner was also shown how to introduce himself to people, make small talk and enter and leave a room in style.

The footage from the sessions weren't used in the end, but Liz Brewer remembered her time with the Scottish star fondly.

She said: “He wasn’t a big star then and didn’t have the reputation he has now. But they must have thought he had potential to spend that money.

"He was a good pupil and listened carefully.”

However, she did note that she was a bit surprised to hear about his tendency for expletive-filled language, such as his acceptance speech at the Brits last month, when he picked up the award for Best New artist, and his blue language meant he had to be muted.

She admitted that's not the way she remembered him.

She expressed: "None of the classes included any swearing and he never swore when he was with me.

He was a perfect pupil.

"It’s a great shame he feels he has to swear now as he’s a nice guy with huge talent.

"I think it’s an age thing and I’m sure he will grow out of it."

Lewis is known for his down-to-earth persona which is part of his appeal to fans.

A spokesperson for the Scot said in response to the revelation about the classes,

He said: "This was part of a jokey video series filmed around the release of Lewis’ single Grace but never released.

Lewis’ team loves him exactly how he is."
