The singer dropped the bombshell confession as he admitted he feared her fame would overshadow his music.
Scotsman Lewis opened up about the moment he had turned down the songstress who was eager to work with him on the chart-topping track Someone You Loved.
A new interview with Music Week saw Lewis give Camila as an example of a huge name he has previously turned down for fear of them overshadowing his tracks with their fame.
The 23-year-old has had a rather successful year gaining number one records across the board.
But Lewis revealed he would much rather be lower down in the charts and known for his music than having someone more famous overshadow him.
He explained he would have been offered to collaboration with huge US names on his popular song.
Speaking to the publication, he confessed: "I said, 'No, I'd rather have a number three by myself than a number one with a feature' because it was still so new in America that everyone would think it was someone else's song."
"Say f**king Camila Cabello did a version of it people would go, 'Oh, that Camila song with that guy on it?'".
He recently hit headlines after he got cosy with Geordie Shore's Charlotte Crosby.
The pair sent fans into a frenzy after she posted a picture of herself posing with the Scottish superstar.
Taking to Instagram to share the cute snap of the pair together after Capaldi's concert, Charlotte gushed over Lewis. She wrote: "He's the best."
They sparked rumours of a potential romance between the two.
Lewis then caused a stir on the same night as he was spotted cuddling into well-known porn stars after his sold-out gig.
