Lewis Capaldi surprises fans as he serves chicken bakes at Greggs

Lewis Capaldi surprised fans with a visit to a Greggs in Middlesbrough on Saturday, where he served chicken bakes from behind the counter.

The West Lothian star was at the Marton Shops branch ahead of his gig at the Radio 1 Big Weekend.

He posted a video of himself in a Greggs uniform for "work experience" on Instagram, saying he was lucky "everything suits me."

Teesside Live reports the 22-year-old chatted to fans and posed for selfies outside the Greggs after serving pasties and sandwiches.

He was asked if he'd enjoyed a steak bake and replied "nah, I had a tuna crunch actually."

Kerri O'Gormley, from Skelton, met the star and said: "He was singing, acting silly - jamming with his hairnet on - being his usual self. He’s hilarious, so down to earth."

One fan tweeted: "So last night Hannah Montana went for a stroll around Park End and this morning Lewis Capaldi is serving sausage buns at Marton Greggs what is actually going on."

And another said: "Seeing a photo of Lewis Capaldi working in Greggs in Marton shops has made my day."

Earlier, the Someone You Loved singer joked he'd be the next Prime Minister following Theresa May's resignation.

Capaldi's LP, Divinely Uninspired to a Hellish Extent, scored 89,506 combined sales within its first week, beating the previous opening week record for the year so far by Ariana Grande, according to the Official Charts Company.
