Lewis Capaldi steps away from limelight to focus on new album

It's a dark day for social media.

For the next few months, the likes of Twitter, Instagram and TikTok will be a whole less funnier, with the news Lewis Capaldi is taking some time out.

But fans of the Scots megastar should have no fear.

Lewis Capaldi wins award for British Album of the Year at the Brit Awards in February (PA)

He's only taking himself away from the temptation of procrastination, as he works on some new material for his much-anticipated new album.

The Bathgate-born singer, who recently moved to a plush new mansion just outside Glasgow, made the sad announcement to his army of fans this morning.

And it'll be bleak to hear for some, as the musician often keeps followers entertained with his quirky sense of humour and hilarious updates across platforms.

Taking to Twitter, Lewis said: "Honestly been the most incredible few years and it means the world to have the support of all of you.

"Going to f**k off for a wee bit now to crack on and finish the second album.

"Won't be using social media so you'll all have to make do without me talking s***e and constantly trying to take your money by flogging you something.

"Hope you all had a lovely Christmas and New Year and I'll see you big lovely b******s later in the year with some new music that imagine will be universally panned by critics and will fail to be as commercially successful as my last outing. Thus spelling the beginning of the end of the 15 minutes of fame that quite frankly, I never deserved in the first place.

"IT'S ALL VERY EXCITING. LOVE YOU, STAY SAFE AND BYE FOR NOW."

The news comes after it was revealed earlier today that Lewis' debut was the best-selling UK album in the UK in 2020 for the second year running.

Official figures released by record labels’ association the BPI, based on Official Charts Company data, showed that Lewis also had two singles in the top 10 chart of the year.

Before You Go and Someone You Loved were the fourth and eight best-selling songs of 2020.
