Lewis Capaldi's emotional message to fans after UK and Ireland tour sells out

Lewis Capaldi has shared a heartfelt message with fans after tickets for his highly anticipated UK and Ireland tour sold out within an hour of going on sale.

The Scottish singer-songwriter made an emotional return to the spotlight last month with a surprise performance at Glastonbury, marking his first set since stepping back from the stage to focus on his mental health.

Performing his new track Survive on the Pyramid Stage, two years after he publicly struggled with symptoms of Tourette’s syndrome during the same festival, Capaldi received a rapturous welcome.

The song has since soared to number one on the singles chart.

Following the performance, Capaldi announced a full 17-date tour across the UK and Ireland in September. But even he was taken aback by the overwhelming demand.

Capaldi previously said that the number of fans that signed up for the tour’s pre-sale was four times as many as he’s ever seen.

Taking to social media, the 27-year-old shared his shock and gratitude with fans: “Honestly didn’t expect this at all… genuinely had no idea what to expect after taking a break for so long so (to) be seeing this tour sell out faster than any tour I’ve ever played is the most incredible surreal feeling.”

He also addressed fans who were unable to secure tickets, explaining that there are no plans to add extra shows in order to prioritise his mental health.

“Thank you to every single one of you who got a ticket and I’m very sorry to any of you who wanted to come and missed out this time,” he said.

“There won’t be any other shows for now, want to make sure I don’t push myself too far too soon. Means more than ya know how many of you were waiting to get tickets this morning x”.

The tour marks Capaldi’s official return to live music after he cancelled all remaining tour dates in 2023 to manage his wellbeing.

News of his tour selling out comes after Capaldi gave fans a major health update following his emotional return to Glastonbury.

The Before You Go singer has now called the episode the “literally the worst moment” of his life and revealed he is doing much better after getting off anti-depressants and doing therapy.

The Scottish musician said therapy has played a “massive part” in his career comeback, during a conversation with one of his best friends to mark his new partnership with the BetterHelp online therapy platform.

Of the 2023 performance, Capaldi said: “It was a big, big, big old gig. Second song in I was probably just like, ‘This has to like… I can’t keep doing this to myself and other people as well.’”

He went on: “People were coming to gigs, and I was like, ‘That’s not how you want to watch a show’. As far as I was concerned, I was like, ‘I’m done indefinitely’.”

The Someone You Loved singer said he felt anxious because he “wasn’t living in the moment at all” and was “catastrophising”.

“Therapy has been such a massive part of my last two years, a massive part of the reason that I’m able to be a musician again,” he explained.

“In partnership with BetterHelp and sort of to reflect my experience of therapy and the importance I feel it has in my life and other people’s lives, we’re giving away 734,000 free hours of therapy.

“The importance of that number is that it’s 1,000 hours for every single day that I have, well, since I last played on stage and I feel like, if I can be a part of sharing that with other people, why not?”
