Lewis Capaldi's 'awesome' reaction to surprise proposal at his London concert

Lewis Capaldi had an epic reaction to a couple getting engaged in the middle of his London gig on Thursday evening.

The Someone You Loved singer, 28, is currently touring the UK after returning to the spotlight with a surprise show at this summer’s Glastonbury following a two-year hiatus.

During his third show at the 02 Arena, a man proposed to his girlfriend in the crowd and energetically pumped his arms in the air when she accepted.

Capaldi, who was singing his 2023 hit Pointless onstage, looked nonplussed as the crowd erupted into cheers and the camera found the celebrating couple.

“Someone proposed or something?” he asked, before saying: “Congratulations, I f*****g s**t myself! Wow, congratulations.”

He then joked that the lovebirds had staged the whole thing, teasing: “It's all an act. They're paid actors. It was the whole thing. No, I'm only joking.”

Capaldi went on: “Congratulations, that's f*****g amazing stuff. I hope you like the new version of that song, otherwise....”

A clip of the heartwarming exchange was shared on TikTok, with fans and concert-goers sharing their admiration in the comments.

“I was there tonight! It was awesome,” one enthused, as another admitted: “I was there, I was the girl who cried.”

Elsewhere in the concert, Capaldi introduced his new song, Something In The Heavens, which was released on Thursday.

“Right, everybody. what was I gonna say? Oh yeah, I released a new song this evening,” he said.

“Yes. It's a new song I've been teasing it, I've been teasing it gently over the last however many weeks and you know, it's been a nice response, so we thought we'll put it out, we'll let people hear it.”

He added jokingly: “I mean, I was gonna release it anyway if you didn't like it. It's the song that came out today.

“I'm still, as you can probably tell, getting used to talking in between songs and stuff. I'm working my way back up.

“But yeah, this is my new song, it's called Something in the Heavens. I hope you like it.”

Capaldi stepped away from the limelight in 2023 after having a breakdown while performing at Glastonbury amid struggles with Tourette syndrome and anxiety.

After his episode, he cancelled his tours, including one planned for Australia, so he could focus on his recovery.

The Scottish star has since overhauled his mental health by reducing his alcohol intake, improving his physical health, having weekly therapy sessions, and switching from antidepressants to anti-psychotic medication.

Capaldi released his comeback track, Survive, in June after an emotional return to Glastonbury and the song has since soared to number one on the singles chart.
