SCOTTISH singer Lewis Capaldi has stepped on to Glastonbury’s Pyramid Stage for a secret set, two years after a performance at the festival saw him struggle to manage his Tourette symptoms.
The crowd started chanting “oh Lewis Capaldi” before he began playing the hit song Before You Go to kick-off his set, which had been listed as “TBA” on the Glastonbury website.
The musician, who announced a break from touring shortly after his performance at the festival in 2023, has just released a new song called Survive.
He played his new single, saying getting back to the Pyramid Stage had been his "goal for the last two years," with the song written about his journey.
He said: "I've really, really missed doing this over the last two years, and it's been difficult at times to think that maybe this wouldn't happen again. Genuinely, from the bottom of my heart, it means the f***ing world that everyone's here."
He also said his surprise set was the "worst kept secret" as rumours had been swirling prior to his appearance. Several times during his performance, Capaldi could be seen emotional.
On New Year’s Eve in 2023, Capaldi said in a lengthy Instagram post that he would “continue taking some time to carry on looking after myself” following the announcement he would take a break from touring after struggling with his voice during his Glastonbury Festival set earlier in the year.
Capaldi explored how the pressures of fame have affected him mentally and physically in the Netflix documentary Lewis Capaldi: How I’m Feeling Now which was released in April 2023.
His critically-acclaimed 2019 debut album Divinely Uninspired To A Hellish Extent emerged as the biggest-selling UK album of both 2019 and 2020.
