Lewis Capaldi has released new music, fuelling rumours he could be among the surprise performers at this year’s Glastonbury Festival.

The Scottish singer, 28, last played the Pyramid Stage in 2023 before announcing a break from touring to focus on his mental health.

He confirmed his hiatus on New Year’s Eve, citing anxiety and the need to prioritise his wellbeing.

Capaldi returned this week with a new track titled Survive, sharing a montage video on Instagram with the caption: “It’s been a while…”

“Most nights I fear that I’m not enough, I’ve had my share of Monday mornings when I can’t get up,” he sings on the emotionally charged track that lays bare the weight of self-doubt and mental health struggles.

But the track doesn’t stay in the darkness for long. Its powerful chorus surges with grit and determination: “I swear to God I’ll survive, if it kills me to, I’m gonna get up and try, if it’s the last thing I’ll do.”

The release comes just weeks after he made his first live appearance in two years, performing at a charity concert in Edinburgh in support of suicide prevention.

Capaldi, from Bathgate, West Lothian, has Tourette’s Syndrome and released his first album in 2019, with a second album following in 2023.

On New Year’s Eve in 2023, Capaldi said in a lengthy Instagram post that he would “continue taking some time to carry on looking after myself” following the announcement he would take a break from touring after struggling with his voice during his Glastonbury Festival set earlier in the year.

Capaldi explored how the pressures of fame have affected him mentally and physically in the Netflix documentary Lewis Capaldi: How I’m Feeling Now which was released in April 2023.

His critically-acclaimed 2019 debut album Divinely Uninspired To A Hellish Extent emerged as the biggest-selling UK album of both 2019 and 2020.

His hit songs include 2019’s Someone You Loved, 2020’s Before You Go and 2022’s Forget Me.

This year’s Glastonbury line-up includes several TBA (to be announced) slots, with one on Friday sparking rumours that Lewis Capaldi could make a surprise appearance - though nothing has been confirmed.

Fuel has been added to the fire by posters spotted around Worthy Farm advertising a Lewis Capaldi lookalike competition scheduled for 4.55pm on the Pyramid Stage. Festivalgoers have also shared signs featuring lyrics from his new song and a phone number to text, further hinting at a potential comeback.

Also among the music stars rumoured to be performing a secret set at Glastonbury is New Zealand singer Lorde, whose fourth studio album, Virgin, has just been released.
