Lewis Capaldi pulls out of UK shows to prevent 'long-term damage' to his voice

Lewis Capaldi has pulled out of three UK shows to prevent “long-term damage” to his voice.

The Scottish singer-songwriter called off performances at Norwich’s EUA (30 November) and Nottingham’s Rock City (2 December), as well as today’s show at O2 Academy Sheffield (3 December), after receiving advice from a doctor.

The announcement follows the cancellation of Capaldi’s O2 Guildhall show in Southampton on Thursday (28 November). The “Someone You Loved” singer went on to perform at the following Brixton O2 Academy date, though lost his voice during the show.

“Last night in Brixton was one of the hardest performances I’ve had to do and thank you so, so much to everyone that came down and helped out with the tougher parts of some of those tunes,” Capaldi wrote on Instagram, in a post that has since been deleted.

“As you know, I have been struggling with my voice since touring in America and the European leg and much of this UK stretch of this tour has been difficult,” he continued. “I’ve had URGENT check ups with various doctors and under each of their professional advisories I need to take it very easy and unfortunately have to cancel my next three shows.”

“I desperately want to be able to perform every show I advertise and put on for you all. Genuinely hate letting ANYONE down.”

The tour’s concluding run of Scottish dates in Edinburgh and Glasgow are still scheduled to go ahead, with an additional UK tour set to commence 2 March 2020.

Capaldi is currently celebrating his second number one single with “Before You Go”. Responding to the news, he commented: “Truly warms my heart to see the reaction to the song so far.”

He is also up for a Grammy for Song of the Year (”Someone You Loved”) at the 2020 ceremony in LA.
