Lewis Capaldi jokes he's preparing for 'showdown' with his parents as he self-isolates at home in Scotland

Lewis Capaldi has joked about tension at home as he spends lockdown with his parents in Bathgate, Scotland.

“I’m ready to literally fight my parents,” he told Rolling Stonein a new interview. “It’s gonna come to a showdown between us before the end of this, and I’m quite glad for it.”

Asked if they were preparing for a fight, he responded: “Oh, for sure. My dad’s been doing push-ups around the house. And then I saw my mum polishing some knuckle dusters. I thought, ‘Right, I better watch out.’ So I’ve been doing some squats.”

In the same interview, Capaldi discussed his success so far and also how his parents, both key workers, have been coping with the coronavirus pandemic.

“Obviously you worry for them going out, but it’s just that thing of like, you have to,” he said. “My mum [a nurse] has to do it, and that’s her view of it: ‘This is my job and this is what I do.’ I think if she was more panicked, or my dad was, I probably would be a bit more worried, but their demeanour has been quite reassuring to me.”

Capaldi recently released a new live EP, To Tell the Truth I Can’t Believe We Got This Far, which coincided with the one-year anniversary of his debut album, Divinely Uninspired to a Hellish Extent.

The album achieved the biggest sales of 2019, while Capaldi’s hit song “Someone You Loved” received a Grammy nomination for Song of the Year as well as a number of Brit Awards.
