Lewis Capaldi joins in traditional Māori welcome as he arrives in New Zealand

Watch the amazing moment Lewis Capaldi was treated to a traditional Māori welcome as he arrived in New Zealand.

The Whitburn lad was stunned when a group of performers from Hātea Kapa Haka, a Māori Cultural Group, began singing 'Someone You Loved' when he walked through the doors at Auckland Airport on Tuesday.

The talented group performed their own rendition of the hit song before the popular Scot joined in on the act.

Lewis , 23, who was in New Zealand as part of his sold out tour, later thanked the group for the warm welcome.

Scots Love Island contestant talks about being Lewis Capaldi's ex-girlfriend

Posting on Instagram, he wrote: "Thanks so much to Hātea Kapa Haka for the Powiri welcome to New Zealand."

Lewis' ex-girlfriend is set to make her debut appearance on the winter edition of Love Island this weekend.

The 22-year-old claims Someone You Loved – the UK’s biggest hit last year - was written by Lewis about her.

She said the teenage sweethearts are still pals after meeting at college in Motherwell.

Neither of them have spoken publicly about the time together but when asked yesterday what her claim to fame was, Paige said: “Lewis Capaldi is my ex-boyfriend.

“We went out when we were younger, I was about 17 or 18. We were together for about a year. It ended really amicably and we’re still pals.”

While Lewis has never mentioned Paige by name, he has said of the relationship that inspired his song: “I loved her. I loved the look of her and I loved how she spoke.

"We dated for a year-and-a-half then she left me. Then I wrote an album about it and I still think about it every day.”
