Lewis Capaldi is the most trolled UK artist in top 20, new survey shows

We love Lewis Capaldi and know we aren't the only ones - there is a reason that his music has consistently been found in the charts since he first shot to stardom.

On top of his musical successes, he's won numerous awards, raised money for charity and kept us laughing throughout lockdown with his hilarious social media appearances.

But despite Lewis being the funny man that we all know and love (as well as writing a few bangers that we've enjoyed from our living rooms or as part of festival crowds), new data shows that Lewis is the most trolled UK musician out of last years top 20 artists - and the only Scottish contender.

With the help of SEMrush, OnBuy.com conducted Twitter sentiment analysis on the top 20 artists of the last year to reveal which artist was getting trolled the most - and Lewis came in at 5th, whilst being the only Scot on the list.

Cardi B is the most trolled artist on Twitter, with 24.09 per cent of tweets directed at her being described as "negative."

As mentioned, Lewis placed 5th with 19.59 per cent negative tweets. However, 46 per cent of tweets directed towards him were positive.

His most used emoji is the red love heart.

Other trolled British musicians include Joel Corry (14th), MNEK (16th) and Dua Lipa (18th)

The data also showed male musicians are more trolled than female, with 12 male vs eight female artists making the top 20.

During the difficult time of the pandemic, the results of the survey are shocking. Trolling has been a contentious topic for a long time, with The Spectator reporting the UK Government is talking about potentially fining social-media firms for failing to remove abusive content.

In some cases, people have been arrested over social media content. Earlier this year, Police Scotland confirmed that a 35-year-old man was been charged ‘in connection with communication offences’ following the death of Captain Tom Moore.

Lewis - whatever the trolls are saying, know that we love you.

Trolls - give it a rest?
