Lewis Capaldi in 'elf's baw' plea to US fans to help get song to No1

has pleaded with his American fans to get him to No1, claiming he’s an “elf’s baw hair away” from the top spot.

The singer, of Bathgate, West Lothian, took to social media to tout for sales of Someone You Loved.

He wrote: “AMERICA! 2 DAYS LEFT TO HELP AMERICA’S SWEETHEART (me) get higher in the chart, managed to get this far on my good looks alone #blessed but my luck is running out, need all of you in to download it on iTunes & grab the last CDs.”

Lewis, 23, is at No3 behind Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello’s Senorita at No2 and Lizzo’s Truth Hurts at No1. If he gets to No1, he’ll be the first Scot to do so since Calvin Harris in 2011.

To help, he was pictured with a giant foam hand with his name on it and two fingers up in the peace sign to remind fans he had two days to get enough sales to bag his first American No1.

To get people to buy the tune, Lewis has been singing them songs on his social media, dressing up as Uncle Sam and changing his name from Chewis Capaldi to America’s Sweetheart.

On Tuesday, the star, who still lives at his parents’ home in Scotland, said: “I’ve been pushing long and hard, like a mother who is pregnant with quadruplets and the doctors are saying ‘you’re pushing so hard’. I feel like this is the last push.

“I’m just a boy and not yet a woman.”
