Lewis Capaldi snubbed from big awards at this year's MTV EMAs

Lewis Capaldi has been snubbed in the main awards categories by MTV EMAs.

Today MTV released the nominations for the big pop event which takes places this year in Seville, Spain next month with Ariana Grande leading the way with seven nods.

Lewis , 22, got three but in minor categories - Best Act (Home Region), Best New and Best Push.

He missed out on best artist, best song or best video.

Lewis’ single Someone You Loved spent seven weeks at No1.

And his debut album Divinely Uninspired to a Hellish Extent spent six weeks at No1.

Lewis is currently on tour in America. He is due to play Denver tonight. His MTV nominations include Best Push, Best Act (Home Region) in which he’s up against Ed Sheeran, Little Mix, Dave and Mabel and Best New where he’s up against Billie Eilish, Lil Nas X, Lizzo, Mabel and Ava Max.

In the main awards rather than Someone Like You being a contender MTV have decided the best songs of 2019 in Europe are Ariana Grande’s 7 Rings, Billie Eilish’s Bad Guy, Lil Nas X’s Old Town Road, Post Malone’s Sunflower  and the Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello’s collab Senorita.

Best artist nominations are Ariana Grande, J Balvin, Miley Cyrus, Shawn Mendes and Taylor Swift.

Lewis, whose new single Bruises was released this week, isn’t even in the pop category which includes Ariana, Becky G, Camilia Cabello, Halsey, Jonas Brothers and Shawn Mendes.

Another Scot who dominates the charts but clearly not MTV is Calvin Harris who gets one single nod in the best electronic category.

MTV refused to comment about the snub

The MTV EMAs 2019 will broadcast live across the globe on November 3 from FIBES, 3rd  Conference & Exhibition Centre of Seville, Spain.
