Lewis Capaldi had Spotify UK's most-streamed song and album of 2019

It's been a hell of a year for 23-year old Scottish singer Lewis Capaldi.

From being a little-known name at the start of 2019, the artist has ended the year by having the most-streamed song and most-streamed album on Spotify in the UK.

The streaming site have today released details about their most-streamed artists, songs and albums for both 2019 and for the whole decade.

It won't come as a surprise to anyone who's followed Lewis Capaldi's rise, that he's ended the year as one of Spotify's biggest artists.

Capaldi's breakthrough hit, 'Someone You Loved', ended the year as the most streamed song in the UK, while his debut album, Divine Uninpsired To A Hellish Extent , was also the most streamed album of the year. Despite this, Ed Sheeran remained the most streamed artist in the UK overall in 2019.

This caps off a year which has seen Capaldi become a massive hit in Northern Ireland. He almost overshadowed The Killers when he supported them at Belsonic this summer , before going on to wow a sold out audience at the Ulster Hall last month.

In 2020, Capaldi returns to Belfast - this time to headline his own gig at Ormeau Park .

Elsewhere on Spotify's end of year charts, Drake takes the crown as the most-streamed artist of the 2010s, while Ed Sheeran's 'Shape of You' was the most streamed song of the last 10 years, racking up an incredible 2.4 billion streams.
