Lewis Capaldi gifted with 'beautiful and bizarre' papier-mache statue of himself

Lewis Capaldi was gifted a 'beautiful and bizarre' statue of himself made of papier-mache and ping-pong balls.

The Hold Me While You Wait singer, 26, looked delighted as he posed with the statue made by the pupils from his former school, St Kentigern's Academy in Blackburn, West Lothian.

Students at the school took the time to craft a statue made from papier-mache, ping pong balls and bronze spray paint.

The result was the complete opposite of what one would have expected.

Principal art teacher Bryan Johnstone revealed the statue was "intentionally bad, bizarre and odd-looking".

Unsurprisingly, Lewis loved the present and called it the most "beautiful and bizarre gift ever".

"Lewis, as we know, is great at laughing at himself and self-deprecating, hence why the plan was to do something like this," Bryan told Sky News.

The students used the fake David Beckham statue as inspiration for the art piece of Lewis.

Lewis is known for his incredible voice and hilarious sense of humour so it's no surprise he was a big fan of the statue.

His visit to his former school comes after he admitted he axed a track written by a One Direction star from his new album because it was "s**t".

The Scottish star didn't hold back when revealing which tracks he scrapped from his second album Broken By Desire To Be Heavenly Sent.

He revealed he hit the studio with close pal One Direction's Niall Horan in the hopes of recording a hit together.

Yet it wasn't to be as Lewis admitted the song was below the standard he wanted.

If that wasn't enough for Niall to take, he also confessed he'd rather record with former bandmate Harry Styles.

Talking about who he is keen to get into the studio with, Lewis said: “I would love to do a collaboration with Paolo Nutini. He is my dream.

"He is an elusive man. He will just disappear for seven years. So trying to get him and pin him down . . . he is slippery."

He added: “He has greased himself up and I chase him around the bedroom but he keeps getting away.

“If he is up for it, I would do it tomorrow.

“Niall would be one of course. We wrote a song and it was not good. Yeah, it was f***ing s**t. He wrote most of it.”
