Tickets for Lewis Capaldi's huge headlining gig at The Royal Highland Showgrounds in Edinburgh went on sale today as fans scrambled to bag one.
Loyal followers who pre-ordered the West Lothian star's new album, 'Broken By Desire To Be Heavenly Sent', were able to participate in Ticketmaster's pre-sale today from 9am. The Someone You Loved singer took to Twitter last night warning of the huge demand for tickets to his shows, confirming over 90 per cent of tickets have been allocated to the pre-sale.
The sale quickly descended into chaos as many people who pre-ordered Lewis' new album didn't receive a pre-sale code for the ticket sale. However, in a bid to make things fairer, the cheeky crooner took codes off the site for the first hour - allowing anyone to buy a ticket, whether or not they bought his album for a code.
Within 15 minutes of the tickets going on sale, Capaldi tweeted: "THINK THE EDINBURGH SHOW MIGHT BE SOLD OUT".
Many fans took to Twitter to vent their frustration as the link provided was not working properly, and kicked users out of the Ticketmaster site as they got to the front of the virtual queue. One said: "@LewisCapaldi @TicketmasterUK been trying to get tickets for Edinburgh, was through to the artist presale page then kicked back to your in a Q now back on artist presale this just isn’t right. Bought the CD last time for presale & missed out on Glasgow tickets. Very frustrating."
Another fan ranted: "@LewisCapaldi I pre-ordered your album back in October and was hoping to get the presale code this morning for your Edinburgh show but NOTHING gutted."
A third annoyed user wrote: "Lewis, that’s not cool. You did this the last time as well, I don’t even have a CD player and I bought the signed CD to get presale access, and then you just open it up to anyone. I feel a little used tbh"
After seeing a disappointed fan, Lewis responded: "am very sorry mate, something has gone badly wrong with a load of people not getting codes beyond my control. this is the first time it's happened like this! opened it up to be fair to those who didn't get it but understand that then becomes unfair for those who did am doing all i can, is such a nightmare when there's all these companies involved with stuff and so many people to try and keep happy x"
However, despite the technical difficulties many fans were left happy after eventually getting tickets to see Lewis in the summer. They praised the Scots singer for going above and beyond to help his fanbase out, first by taking off the code requirement and then re-tweeting the links.
One fan buzzed: "That link worked! Thank you see you in Edinburgh," as another wrote: "Cheers Lewis, clicked that link & got 4 no probs, ideal"
"Got them via new artist link on Twitter - well done @LewisCapaldi," wrote a third. Another fan echoed: "THE NEW LINK WORKED YAY SEE YOU NEXT WEEK AND IN SEPTEMBER @LewisCapaldi"
After the pre-sale ended, Lewis took to Instagram to apologise for the stressful experience. In a video, he said: "Good morning all, it's Lewis here. I just wanted to say thank you very much if you got tickets in the pre-sale this morning.
"All pre-sale has sold out which is great but I more importantly want to apologise because I know there was a lot of issues getting on the site. Whether it was some of the codes not being sent out, or the ticket site crashing. It always seems to be something goes wrong when we f***ing do one of these and I feel sh** about it because people have pre-ordered the album and not been sent a code.
"It's f***ing annoying and I apologise to people who feel like they've been shafted and we'll try to work something out. But yeah, I feel pretty s***. It's not within my control and it was all a little bit late to stop it."
