Lewis Capaldi fans blown away after impromptu busking set on busy Glasgow street

Lewis Capaldi has stunned fans with an impromptu busking performance in Glasgow today.

The West Lothian singer took to one of Buchanan Street in the city today for the surprise gig outside a Nespresso store.

Passers-by looked on in shock as Lewis shouted: “I’m not Lewis Capaldi. I’m just someone else. Just a really good impersonator.

Gesturing to the photographers, he then quipped “thanks for stopping" before telling the crowd: "This is in no way set up, we didn’t tell them we were going to be here at all.”

The 25-year-old started his set with hit song Before You Go as a crowd of lucky punters stopped in their tracks to watch.

After he finished his first song, the crowd, including local shop workers filing the gig on their phones, has swelled to around 100 people.

Lewis added: “I’ve got a new single out. But The Queen died this week and it's not a great week to release a single.

“There’s not much promo you can do after that’s happened. So this is us, we are here, we are making it happen.

"Thank you for watching me, I’m only going to play one more song.

“This is that new song. It’s called Forget Me and it’s out now, if you want to listen to it, please do.”

Capaldi also joked to fans that he'd lost his voice, explaining: “Also I'm losing my voice so that’s why I sound bad."

He went on to tease the crowd for being tight-fisted and reminded them he was open for tips.

He added: “No one has given me any money yet, what the f*** is this? Tight b******* in the audience.”

One woman from the crowd then rushed forward with her cash offering, before Lewis burst into laughter and pocketed the coin.

Finishing up his quick surprise set, the cheeky crooner then thanked fans for staying to watch him.

Delighted Glaswegians took to social media straight after to report their excitement.

One wrote: “Lewis Capaldi is a legend for busking on the streets of Glasgow."

Another said: "Lewis Capaldi is such a big artist, yet he is busking on the street. What an absolute legend.”

This comes after Capaldi took punters by surprise last night after another impromptu set at Box bar in Glasgow. The singer took to the Sauchiehall Street pub and took part in the open mic night to promote his new single.

After stunning the crowd in the packed bar, Capaldi even generously picked up the tab and paid for the punters drinks.
