Lewis Capaldi epic three-word response to viral Martin Brundle blunder at Singapore F1

Lewis Capaldi has poked fun at his now-viral run-in with Sky Sports presenter Martin Brundle during the Singapore Grand Prix.

The 28-year-old Scottish singer attended the Formula 1 event with his brother after performing earlier in the day.

As Brundle made his way down the grid, chatting to celebrities including Jack Whitehall and Superman star David Corenswet, he stopped when he thought he’d spotted Capaldi — only for the musician’s brother to interject: “I’m his brother!”

The mix-up quickly turned into a comedy moment as the trio laughed, with Capaldi introducing himself properly and saying: “Nice to meet you, I'm a big fan.”

The hitmaker was then asked by Brundle who he was cheering on in the race that was about to begin, to which the musician replied while pointing to his brother: “Well, he's here supporting McLaren.”

Brundle then put the microphone under the nose of his brother who quipped: “I'm just a guy who's here, that's all.”

Rounding off the chat, the broadcaster then said: “Well, I'm sorry that I mistaked you, but it's lovely to see you on the grid.”

As the Sky Sports commentator went to walk away but as he did, Capaldi stuck his right hand out for a handshake, but Brundle didn’t see it and left the musician hanging which forced him to shake his own hand and laugh.

The exchange instantly went viral across social media, with Capaldi himself reposting the clip on X, joking: B**ched by Brundle.”

Fans flooded the comments with praise for his reaction.

One wrote: “Lewis Capaldi took it well, a Martin Brundle grid walk at his best”.

“Not Martin Brundle calling Lewis Capaldi's brother Lewis and then missing Lewis Capaldi's handshake as well,” another commented.

A third added: “That Lewis Capaldi gridwalk interview might have been the best of all time.”

Brundle’s grid walks are famous for their mix of charm and chaos, and this latest moment joins a long line of celebrity encounters that have made headlines.

The former F1 driver has previously been snubbed by Usher in Saudi Arabia, clashed with Kylian Mbappé and Megan Thee Stallion’s bodyguards in Monaco and Austin respectively.

He’s also had to endure bizarre exchanges with Machine Gun Kelly, DJ Khaled and Pharrell Williams.

Even model Cara Delevingne had a frosty moment with Brundle at Silverstone in 2022, declining to talk to him on air.

Sunday’s Grand Prix said George Russell win after years of heartbreak on the street track.

Max Verstappen came in second and Lando Norris completing the podium, although Driver’s Championship leader Oscar Piastri finished fourth and was unhappy after Norris’s first-lap overtake.
