Lewis Capaldi enjoys 'banging' chippy tea on North Shields Fish Quay and here's what he ordered

Lewis Capaldi amazed staff at a North Shields chip shop when he popped in for tea on Friday night.

The Scottish star is in the North East ahead of his sold-out gig at Newcastle's Utlilta Arena Saturday, January 21 and decided to treat himself to some fish and chips the night before the show.

Capaldi paid a visit to the Waterfront chip shop on North Shields Fish Quay at around 5.30pm and sat in the restaurant for around an hour while he tucked into a large haddock, chips and peas. The 'Someone You Loved' singer washed his meal down with Irn-Bru and finished with a gelato ice cream, according to staff.

Capaldi, 26, was joined by around six members of his team for the meal and told Waterfront staff the food was "banging" before posing for photos.

Waterfront owners, Deborah and Ian Corner, both 55, were amazed the Scottish star had paid their family-run business a visit.

"We didn't know he was coming," Deborah said.

"One of the girls took his order and then said, 'I have just taken Lewis Capaldi's order!' I said, 'are you taking the mick? and she said, 'No! Lewis Capaldi is sitting at table two.'

"I was just talking to him and everybody was like, 'ooh Lewis Capaldi is in!'

"Of all the places he could have picked in the North East, he's picked us to come and have his dinner. It was really nice of him.

"We were honoured. It was a really nice night. He said the food was 'banging' and 'lovely.'

"He was really nice and polite."

Capaldi isn't the first star to have enjoyed a chippy tea at the Waterfront in the 28 years Deborah and Ian have run the fish shop. Other stars who have paid a visit include Sam Fender, Bobby Robson, Jimmy Nail, Paul Gascoigne and Robson Green.
