Lewis Capaldi confirms he has Tourette's as fans spot strange 'twitches'

Lewis Capaldi has revealed that he has been diagnosed with Tourette's syndrome after sharing the news with fans this week.

The West Lothian singer told fans he had undergone procedures to try and calm his symptoms as the 25-year-old learns to live with the condition.

Speaking on Instagram, Lewis explained that he had been working to reduce the number of 'tics' he experiences by having Botox injections in his arm.

Hoping to answer any curiosities about any jerky or unusual movements he might do while performing on stage, after some fans questioned if the star had been taking drugs, reports the Record.

He said: "I do this shoulder twitch quite a lot. You see it underneath TikToks and stuff, people like, 'why's he twitching?'

"Curiosity is fine, I get it, but some people are like, 'he's definitely taken cocaine'. Do you think, before I play to 20,000 people as an anxious person, I'm going to take a big line of cocaine? Never going to happen.

"It’s a new thing. I haven’t really learnt much about it. I'm learning.

“I got Botox in my shoulder to stop it moving - it works for a bit but it gets worse. The worst thing is when I'm excited, I get it. When I'm stressed, I get it. When I'm happy, I get it.

“Some days it’s more painful than others, sometimes it’s quite uncomfortable but it's not that big a deal. It looks a lot worse than it' looks. I guess that’s it."

He added: “When they told me, ‘We think you’ve got Tourette’s’, I was like, ‘Do you know what, that makes so much sense’.

“When I look back at my interviews from 2018 and all the rest of it I can see that I’m doing it, but it comes and goes.

"Sometimes I can go months without doing it. I thought I had some horrible degenerative disease so I’ll take Tourette’s.

"Other than that, healthy as f***."

Capaldi's diagnosis comes days after the famously self-effacing star stripped to his underpants for an international billboard campaign to promote new single Forget Me - his first new song in three years.

Lewis' new single Forget Me is out this Friday - and is widely expected to go straight to the top of the singles charts. His debut album, Divinely Uninspired To A Hellish Extent, stayed in the top 10 album chart for 77 weeks.
