Lewis Capaldi brings Croxteth Park to a standstill with incredible Beatles 'Yesterday' cover

Lewis Capaldi played his 'biggest headline show ever' in Liverpool last night.

It is thought 12,000 people attended the sold out BBC show that saw the Scottish singer perform a special concert with a full orchestra.

The performance was only announced last month but with Lewis being one of the most influential musicians around at the moment, anticipation was high for the gig. It did not dissapoint.

Performing tracks from his debut album Divinely Uninspired to a Hellish Extent, the backing of Manchester's CAMRA orchestra made his hit singles such as Someone You Loved, Grace and Hold Me While You Wait seem that little bit more magical.

The set started with a movie-like intro, with a beautiful symphony, and just as audiences thought the craftsmanship couldn't get any better, Lewis' voice blew Croxteth Park away.

He proved himself to be one of those rare musicians that sounds exactly like the recorded song, if not better.

Making sure to honour Liverpool, he decided to take on the brave task of covering 'Yesterday' by the Beatles - after confessing to the ECHO Paul McCartney was his favourite scouser.

It was a gamble which definitely paid off and saw the 12,000 strong crowd singing every word back to him.

In true Lewis Capaldi style, his fans not only loved his outstanding voice but his sense of humour.

Lewis and interacted with the audience throughout.

Speaking to the crowd, he said 'it's the first time I've ever performed in Liverpool and when you are going to do it you might as well bring a big f*** off orchestra.'

He then joked he was the 'most talented musician on the stage' before admitting 'this is for the BBC and I've already used up all my f****'.

Although his confident persona has won many fans over, his gratitude was obvious throughout, Lewis couldn't thank the crowd enough.

He also praised Sam Swallow for orchestrating and said without him it all wouldn't have been possible.

If there's one thing Lewis Capaldi proved in Liverpool it is that he isn't just a 'one hit wonder'.

The singer confessed to the thousands that it was a worry of his when releasing the album.

But hearing more than 10,000 people sing-a-long to track after track must have squashed any of his worries.

A spectacular night of music was finished off perfectly with a firework display over the park.

The Liverpool ECHO spoke exclusively to Lewis Capaldi ahead of his headline show.
