West Lothian superstar Lewis Capaldi was muted at the Brit Awards last night after a sweary rant

Lewis Capaldi was muted last night at the Brit Awards after launching into an expletive-laden rant onstage.

The East Whitburn lad was on stage at the prestigious ceremony to give out an award but was censored almost immediately.

Television viewers were left stumped as the audio was silenced for the entirety of the singer’s minute and a half introduction for best album.

The singer wandered on stage and took the mic, saying “shut up” and “shoosh” and seemed to gesticulate for the background music to stop before launching into his foul-mouthed speech.

He also said: “Hello Brit Awards!

“Sorry I am reading off a card here.

“How is everyone doing?

“It’s great to be here tonight, it is just great to be out of the house to be honest.”

He joked it had been a great year for albums, most of all because he hadn’t released one!

“It is a total honour to present the award for best album, let’s hope that this coming year is even bigger and better than ever for British music.

“And obviously let’s hope that Scotland win at the Euros.”

The crowd started boo’ing before Lewis held up the card and joked he hadn’t written it and was “just doing a job.”

The singer than composed himself before introducing the nominees.

Lewis wasn’t nominated for any awards this year after picking up two gongs last year.

He cancelled all live shows for this year and is focussing on creating new music.
