Lewis Burton exposes head wound that 'proves Caroline Flack is innocent of assault', claim pals

A photograph of Lewis Burton exposing his head wound has been released with an insider claiming it proves Caroline Flack's innocent of an alleged assault against him.

Troubled Love Island host Caroline took her own life over the weekend, three weeks before she was due to stand trial for alleged assault.

Caroline, 40, was accused of striking her boyfriend with a lamp at her north London home last December.

A photo, reportedly taken after the alleged altercation, shows the injury to Lewis' head.

Lewis can be seen parting his hair to reveal small scabs on his head.

A source told The Sun: "[It] shows clearly there was no head injury so there was no 'violent attack' with a lamp as claimed by the CPS..."

They also claimed that prosecutors knew that blood around the bedroom was Caroline's not Lewis' - but they continued with questioning regardless.

They said: "She was clearly unfit to be questioned and should have been given psychiatric help instead of a grilling.

"The picture shows clearly there was no head injury so there was no 'violent attack' with a lamp as claimed by the CPS - all the blood was from Caroline.

"She was not well mentally, she was exhausted and had been drinking heavily and even warned officers at the time she would kill herself.

"But police and prosecutors ignored medical evidence," they claimed.

Caroline and her lawyers were told on Thursday last week that their bid to have the case dropped had failed.

Following the TV star's death on Saturday, her management have hit out at the CPS.

When asked about the criticism of the decision to prosecute Caroline, a Crown Prosecution Service spokesman said: “Our deepest sympathies go to the family and friends of Caroline Flack.

“Given the tragic circumstances, we will not comment on the specifics of this case at this stage.”

An inquest into Caroline's death opened in East London today.

The coroner ruled that she had died by suicide by hanging on February 15, with officers and paramedics attempting resucitation.

Her time of death was registered at 2:36pm.

Caroline's body was identified by her twin sister, Jody Flack.

Her mum Christine shared an unpublished Instagram post, penned by Caroline, in her local paper, The Eastern Daily Press.

In the post, Caroline wrote that "Within 24 hours my whole world and future was swept from under my feet and all the walls I had taken so long to build around me collapsed."
