Lewis Baker says he is relishing an "exciting challenge" in Germany after signing for Fortuna Dusseldorf on loan from Chelsea.
The 24-year-old has signed for the Bundesliga side on a season-long loan, with Fortuna Dusseldorf confirming in their announcement of the deal that there is a purchase option as part of the loan agreement for the Blues' midfielder
This is the seventh loan spell of Baker's career so far, having also played in the Eredivisie with Vitesse Arnhem, alongside spells in England with Sheffield Wednesday, Milton Keynes Dons, Middlesbrough, Leeds United and Reading.
And he says he is looking forward to playing in Germany, after joining the side that finished tenth in the Bundesliga last season.
"I am very happy that it has finally worked out after the negotiations in recent days," Baker said, speaking to the Bundesliga club's website .
"I can not wait to join my new team and meet everyone. It will be an exciting challenge for me to play in the Bundesliga. For me, the Bundesliga is one of the top leagues in the world. "
Meanwhile, Fortuna's sporting director Lutz Pfannenstiel has spoken of what Baker will bring to the side, having watched the midfielder during his time at Chelsea, and at other clubs on loan.
"I know and watch Lewis Baker since his youth at Chelsea," he said.
"At Vitesse Arnhem, he was one of the outstanding midfielders in the Eredivisie at a young age. He brings everything you need as a central midfielder. Baker is strong, dynamic and dangerous.
"I am sure that he will do well for our creative game."
