Lewes FC confirm signing of Northern Ireland international Rebecca McKenna

Lewes FC have completed the signing of Northern Ireland international Rebecca Mckenna.

Linfield Ladies announced last month that the 20-year-old had already agreed a professional contract with the East Sussex side.

Speaking to the club website, Lewes First Team Manager Simon Parker said: “Rebecca is a player we’ve been watching a lot.

"She is tenacious with a raw talent we think we can help develop. She’s extremely versatile, young but with a strong character. She is going to be fantastic this year and has huge potential to make a big impact in the league.”

Primarily a right-back, the versatile McKenna is also expected to be able to slot into midfield.

At the age of 17 she made her senior international debut and has since gone on to appear 16 times for her country.

McKenna has become a fixed member of Northern Ireland squads and was part of the team that beat Ukraine in April to book their place at Euro 2022.

As a teenager she turned out for Glentoran before making the switch to rivals Linfield.

In her last months at the club she became captain, filling in for the injured Ashley Hutton.

Last month, Linfield Ladies manager Phil Lewis said: "Rebecca is highly respected by every player and staff member at the club.

"She leads by example and her encouragement and support of our younger players has been immense in what has been a difficult season to date."
