She sent him a song she had written with Stephen Bray and the released the hit Each Time You Break My Heart.
Nick, who caught the eye of Kate Moss and dated presenter Amanda De Cadenet, went on to release follow up single Loving You Is Sweeter Than Ever, a cover of the Four Tops' 1996 hit.
In a BBC radio interview in 1986, Madonna said she'd been inspired by Nick's charisma and beautiful voice.

Following news of Nick's death today, celebs including Boy George have spoken out in tribute.
