Levi Roots shares heartbreaking news that his mum Doreen died during pandemic

Celebrity chef Levi Roots has revealed that his mum Doreen Graham has died.

The cooking whizz - who shot to fame on Dragon's Den with his Reggae Reggae Sauce - shared the heartbreaking news whilst presenting a cooking segment on Friday's This Morning.

Levi - real name Keith Valentine Graham - opened up on the loss as he cooked a yummy chicken stew alongside rice and peas for hosts Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford.

As he created the cuisine, he told the hosts that his mum taught him the recipe before adding that he lost her during the pandemic.

Levi did not share on when his 90-year-old mum died and what was the cause of death.

After he mentioned the tragic news, Eamonn and Ruth offered the TV personality their condolences.

In March Levi took to Twitter to pen a sweet message to his mum on Mother's day.

The cooking whizz shared the heartbreaking news whilst presenting a cooking segment on Friday's This Morning (ITV)

He wrote: "Happy Mothers day to my mum the most amazing woman in my world, she will be 90 years young tomorrow so a very special time for her. I love you mum God bless and protect you. More love LR #mothersday2020."

Doreen was immensely proud of Levi's success.

In 2015 she cut the ribbon with her son when he opened The Levi Roots Caribbean Smokehouse in Westfield Stratford City.

Levi was born one of five children in Clarendon, Jamaica in 1958.

But, when his parents moved to the UK, he was left behind and raised by his grandmother.

He didn't go to school but learned to cook by watching his beloved grandmother in the kitchen.

But when he was 11 Levi was sent to join his parents in south London.

In his teens Levi was jailed for six months for assaulting a police officer and later banged up again for possession of a firearm and conspiracy to supply class A drugs.

Levi charmed the Dragons on Dragon's Den into investing £50,000 in 2007 and he turned his life around and built a £35m food and drink empire.
