Leverkusen chief makes Kai Havertz prediction that Chelsea fans will love amid transfer links

Bayer Leverkusen sporting director Rudi Voller is confident that Chelsea transfer target Kai Havertz will seal a transfer to a "world-class club" at some stage during his career.

The attacking-midfielder, who will celebrate his 21st birthday next Thursday, has been in red hot form since the Bundesliga made its return following the coronavirus shutdown last month, scoring five goals in the first four matches since the restart, helping Leverkusen collect nine points from a possible 12.

Havertz, who would have been aiming to represent Germany at this summer's European Championships had they not been suspended because of the coronavirus pandemic, is a target for a whole host of clubs across Europe, including Chelsea, with Blues head coach Frank Lampard showing a great amount of interest in securing the midfielder's signature.

Chelsea Q&A with Oliver Harbord

Leverkusen, though, are aiming to rebuff any offers that may come their way for the youngster, who has proven he is capable of either playing as an attacking-midfielder or as an out-and-out striker.

On the prospect of keeping Havertz at the BayArena, Voller, who won the World Cup with Germany back in 1990, told Sky Sports, via Goal: "I'm honest, I always have such a small hope that we can and will keep him here for another year."

However, should Havertz, who has also been heavily linked with a move to Liverpool in recent months, look to try and push for an exit from the Bundesliga club, Voller is confident that his £90million price tag, despite the financial impact the coronavirus has had on football, will not be hindered.

As well as that, Voller is also confident that Havertz would only pursue a move away from the BayArena if it was to join one of Europe's heavyweights.

"It doesn't change the fact that he's already a world-class player anyway, that's what he was before. Now the attention is even more on him," Voller admitted.

"He will switch to an absolute world-class club at some point."

This season, in total, Havertz has racked up 38 appearances in all competitions and has netted 15 goals, as well as registering eight assists.
