Leven car crash: Two dead after vehicle smashes into building in Fife

Two people have been confirmed to have died after a car smashed into a building in Fife in the early hours of this morning.

Emergency services raced to Barron Terrace, on the Windygates Road, shortly after 3am this morning after the car mounted a building.

A picture shared by Fife Jammer locations shows the extent of the damage to the building where the tragic fatality occurred.

Many locals have confirmed that they heard "a loud bang" at the site of the crash in the middle of the night.

One person said: "I heard it, made me jump."

Another added: "Drove past this morning - think the car broke in half as there was a bit lying in the middle of the road."

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "We were called to a report of a car colliding with a building on the Windygates Road, Leven, around 3am on Friday, 17 July, 2020.

"Emergency services attended and two men, aged 27 and 29, were pronounced dead at the scene. The road is currently closed while officers are carrying out enquiries into the circumstances of the crash."

A spokeswoman for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said they had assisted during the incident.

She said: “We were called to a building fire Barron Terrace at 3.04am. A car had struck the building.”

Edinburgh Live has contacted the police and ambulance service for comment.
