Leven Car Company dealerships go to wall with loss of 23 jobs

The Kia and Suzuki dealerships in Selkirk of The Leven Car Company have closed with the loss of 23 jobs after administrators failed to find a buyer.

But Leonard Curtis Business Rescue said there had been "significant" interest in the company's Edinburgh business which includes a Rolls-Royce showroom in Corstorphine and Aston Martin, Lotus, Suzuki, Kia and Mitsubishi dealerships at Sighthill.

The family-owned Leven Car Company went into administration last week with a total of 139 jobs in jeopardy. Its directors are Hugh McMahon, who sold his four Lomond Audi owner dealerships to Lookers in 2012, and his son Chris, who is the managing director.

Administrator Stuart Robb of Leonard Curtis said: "We appreciate that this is disappointing news for the staff based at Selkirk. Our focus is to ensure that those employees affected by redundancy there will receive the best support possible. We're working with partnership Action for Continuing Employment (PACE) to support them.

"In terms of the remaining parts of the business, there has been significant interest and we are in advanced discussions with a number of parties. We would like to thank the employees for their continued patience and support during this difficult period. Rest assured, we will endeavour to provide them with an update as soon as possible."
