Level 5 Ireland changes: Earliest dates for Dublin pubs as outdoor dining 'possible' from May

The Government may look at reopening the hospitality sector for outdoor dining as early as May after the emergence of new figures.

Stats from the Health Protection Surveillance Centre showed that 0.1% of Covid transmissions occurs outside.

And these new numbers are understood to have been of interest to cabinet ministers last night and may influence future plans for easing of restrictions.

One Minister told The Irish Daily Mail that the stats mean it could be possible for an end of May reopening for outdoor dining and to allow pubs to serve outdoors also calling it a "viable" aim.

Speaking previously to Dublin Live, hospitality chief Adrian Cummins said the Government needed to give the sector a reopening map.

Cummins said: "We need a clear roadmap to reopening with dates, metrics and a specific percentage of population [vaccinated] for the resumption of business in a viable format."

And on when restaurants and bars should be able to return, he added: "We expect business to reopen towards mid-June.

"We fully support public health guidelines, we always have done and continue to do so.

"The most important thing here is about giving people confidence that we're on the road to recovery and confidence to get businesses back open, confidence that we can get employees back to work."

From Monday next, in-school teaching will fully return and you can meet one other household outside but not in your or their garden.

As well as this, you can travel within your county or within 20km of your home if you live on a county border and all residential construction can restart as well as early-learning and childcare project.
