MINNEAPOLIS — Chicago White Sox second baseman Leury García came within a double of hitting for the cycle during a 6-1 victory against the Minnesota Twins on Wednesday at Target Field.
García hit a two-run home run in the second inning, singled in the fourth and had an RBI triple in the sixth. He grounded out to second in his final at-bat in the eighth.
The Sox had 15 hits to take two of three in the series.
Shortstop Tim Anderson went 4 for 4 with a walk, one RBI and a run. He singled three times and hit an RBI double.
Center fielder Adam Engel had two doubles and scored twice in his return from the injured list. He had been out since June 22 with a strained right hamstring.
Third baseman Jake Burger singled, doubled and had an RBI, right fielder Brian Goodwin had two hits and an RBI and Billy Hamilton had two hits and scored once.
The Sox also got six solid innings from starter Lance Lynn. The All-Star allowed one run on four hits with six strikeouts and three walks while working with catcher Seby Zavala for the first time. Zavala was recalled Tuesday when Yasmani Grandal went on the injured list.
The Sox have split the first six on their nine-game, three-city trip. They begin their final series before the All-Star break Friday against the Baltimore Orioles.
