Letting agent discovers tenant is a hoarder after finding flat in 'atrocious' state

A letting agent was horrified to find heaps of rubbish in a hoarder's flat, just three months after she moved in.

The property worker uncovered the state of the home in Blackpool after receiving complaints from neighbours about the tenant's hoarding habit.

The moment the employee discovered the mess was shown on the last night's Channel 5 show Nightmare Tenants: Slum Landlords.

As agent John Bartram tours the flat, he tells the camera crew: "Oh b******* hell. It's absolutely atrocious. The smell is horrendous, absolutely horrendous.

"In the game, over the years, we have seen all sorts of things. All sorts. We've seen dead bodies, we've seen places covered in dog faeces, places full of rubbish.

"I've never ever in all the years that I've been in the game, seen anything like this.

"You think you've seen it all and then something comes up and you think, 'I didn't think it could happen.' How this lady has been living in these conditions I'll never know."

Old magazines and food also contributed to the 'atrocious' mess (Channel 5)

During the tour, the agent can be seen struggling to find clean areas to put his feet while walking around the mounds of clothes, discarded packaging, newspapers and old food.

Flies buzzed around the flat as John inspected the property, with the most shocking discovery made in the tiny bathroom.

The floor of the lavatory was completely covered with what is believed to be used incontinence pads, which were piled up to the toilet seat.

The unemployed tenant was at an appointment when the camera crew visited her home.

John called in the cleaners who told him it would cost up to £300 to clean the whole flat, Mail Online reports.

The agent estimated it would cost about £6,000 for the flat to be completely sorted.

The tenant was later re-homed, although her hoarding habit continued unabated.
