Letterkenny Lotto millionaire Odhran Doherty plans to splash out on Range Rover for girlfriend

A beaming Lotto millionaire collected his €1m prize from the National Lottery headquarters on Tuesday and revealed he plans to buy a new Range Rover for his girlfriend.

Odhrán Doherty, from The Glebe in Letterkenny, Co Donegal, arrived in style as he pulled up in a white stretch Hummer with family and friends.

But it was another luxury motor that was at the forefront of the 23-year-old's thoughts as he sipped champagne after posing for photographs with the mammoth cheque.

Odhrán said he would like to buy the €100,000 luxury vehicle as a gift for his long-term girlfriend Jessica Orr, who he moved in with in January.

Odhrán told the Irish Mirror:: "I was given a new Range Rover there to take out to Raphoe for a test drive on Monday.

"I had only rang [Lotto HQ] and announced to them that I had won.

"So I went into McGinley Motors in Letterkenny and I asked for a Range Rover just to see what they were like."

The farmer, who works on 300 acres with his dad Liam, said it is a "dream car" for his girlfriend Jessica Orr, 22.

He added: "I might invest in one for her. She was good to me the whole time, so look I may treat her.

"Everything she had if I was ever stuck she would always give it to me so I may treat her back."

Odhrán said the happy couple moved in together in January into his dad Liam's childhood home in Manorcunningham and they are renovating it at the moment.

Odhrán, who plans to continue farming, was left speechless on Saturday evening when he checked the numbers on the Lotto Plus 1 ticket in Raphoe and realised he was the only winner.

Dad Liam revealed how he had bought three lottery tickets in the shop, one each for himself and wife Margaret and one for Odhran.

The youngest sibling also comically revealed they almost forgot the ticket on Tuesday.

He added: "My father put it in a safe place and it was a wee bit too safe to be honest!"
