At the Crossroads Women’s Centre, in north London, we worked with Sheila Kitzinger in defence of pregnant women and breastfeeding mothers. She took swift action when injustices were brought to her attention, and would promptly sign up to action alerts or write her own stiff letters to the authorities. She donated generously. We were in touch just a few weeks ago when she endorsed the Living Wage for Mothers and Other Carers petition launched from the centre: “What’s to oppose about that?” were her words.
