Peter Katin gave numerous benefit piano recitals for the Homosexual Law Reform Society in the 1960s, as well as for the Campaign for Homosexual Equality subsequently. For more than 40 years he was an honorary vice-president of CHE, and never missed a chance when on tour to give a talk to any local CHE group. This commitment was not an easy thing to show, but the hate letters he received never deterred him for a moment. Charming, diffident and approachable he may have been, but there was a spine of steel as well.
