In 1976 Muhammad Anwar undertook audience research into Radio Leicester’s 6 o’clock Show, the first programme stripped across five nights targeted at the city’s growing Asian population. His findings that 66% listened regularly backed the producers’ instincts and ensured the survival of a key programme that over the years evolved into today’s national BBC Asian Network. Few pieces of research could have contributed so much to such an outcome.
