Shortly after arriving at the University of Sussex in 1991, I recall hearing Maggie Boden on BBC Radio 4’s Today programme. “End of history” theories were fashionable at the time, and an interviewee was proposing the “end of science”. Maggie was asked on to give the opposing viewpoint, and clinically demolished the poor man’s argument in under 30 seconds.
While she was a warm and loyal friend, she did not suffer fools gladly, and had a mind like a steel trap. I’ve never known a finer one.
