In 1966, when my first child was five months old, Jane Reed asked me to work with her on the Woman’s Own add-on supplements, which I did as a freelance, on the floor of her office in Tower House. Just as I found when we worked together at Woman’s Own, I had to note down all her ideas – which she’d throw off into the air at any time – and then set in motion the ones I thought she’d remember. Mostly, I guessed right – fortunately.
