I knew George Cunningham when he was chief executive of the Library Association and I was in charge of finance and administration. He was an excellent boss: stubborn at times, but always prepared to listen and change his mind if necessary. For example, when I joined he was wary of computerisation because of a previous disastrous attempt, but he came round after some persuasion.
