Elizabeth Wallis (Other lives, 11 June) and I both sat on the committee of CASE, the Campaign for the Advancement of State Education. She always had something cogent to contribute, but no time for chasing wild geese. Once she told me in no uncertain terms that if I were to collect appropriate press cuttings, I should always put the date on them – obvious to an indexer, and from then on to me.
