The psychoanalyst Eglé Laufer (Other lives, 21 March) was also a member of our psychotherapy department at University College hospital, London. There she pioneered a discussion group for trainee psychiatrists on patients who self-harmed or attempted to take their own lives, encouraging greater awareness of this group of vulnerable young people.
