Letter: Charles Hannam obituary

Charles Hannam broadened the minds of his students
Charles Hannam broadened the minds of his students

In the Bristol school of education in the 1960s, Charles Hannam offered students insights into the reality and impact of fascism. Through his evening film programme many of us from a range of subject areas and backgrounds first encountered, for example, Alain Resnais’ Night and Fog and Andrzej Wajda’s Ashes and Diamonds. If he and colleagues formed a cadre that some dismissed as encouraging the perpetual subversion of the education system rather than anything more positive, his individual contribution was nonetheless to inform, educate and culturally broaden the minds of his students.
