As a young woman having my first baby in 1989, I pored over Beverley Lawrence Beech’s book Who’s Having Your Baby? This was a time when a doctor’s response to my question of having a water birth was: “Well, there’s always the Ouse.”
She enabled me to feel supremely confident about my body. I had just the birth I wanted, with no interventions except the help of two midwives. It was lovely and empowering. Many thanks are due to Beech for equipping pregnant women with knowledge, power and control.
