Letter: Alan Williams obituary

Alan Williams death

I will never forget what Alan Williams did for me. As a young man in Swansea, I was expelled from school for hooliganism. Later, I returned to education but, given that both of my parents worked in factories on low wages, the loss of my wage into the home was a blow. I applied for a study grant from Swansea city council and was turned down. I contacted Williams, my MP, and his intervention got me a grant. Without that help my subsequent honours degree in Coventry and teaching career would not have happened.
