Lethal throwing knives seized by Gardai in Cork city centre

Two razor-sharp throwing knives were seized after Gardai  in Cork city centre stopped and searched a man last Thursday.

The man was arrested and has been charged after being stopped by Gardaí from Anglesea Street on a high visibility oot patrol on Oliver Plunkett Street.

The man, aged in his late 20s, was spotted acting suspiciously and stopped and searched. He was found to be in possession of two throwing knives.

The man was arrested and brought to Bridewell Garda Station and detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984, Cork Beo reports.

He was later charged and is due to appear before Cork City District Court on July 8th.

There have been a string of shocking knife-crime incidents in Cork recently, including a stabbing incident in Bishop Lucey Park last week which saw a man arrested.

Gardai have made combatting knife crime in the Leeside area a high priority as part of a new initiative against violent and anti-social behaviour on city streets.
